Amazon’s New World Heads Back to an Alternate 17th Century

Amazon Games have announced New World via The Game Awards last night, a brand-new MMORPG experience set in an alternate-history 17th century.

If you missed The Game Awards last night, you’ve also probably missed the trailer for New World, so here it is:

In an alternate-history 17th century, the various nations of man have attempted to explore an island called Aeternum. Unfortunately, there seems to be some kind of dark force at work that corrupts the souls of the men who try to claim the power for their own. This makes exploration especially challenging, as you not only have to fend off the dangers of the island but of the legions of fallen warriors as well.

This chaotic island is rife for exploitation — and that means there’s sure to be plenty of competition. Players will have to fend off invasions from other players and the undead legions in battles that can feature as many as a hundred people at one dime. Combat is said to be “visceral and skill-based.”

That doesn’t mean you have to get together with a group of people, mind — it’s entirely possible to go it alone. Solo players will be able to build customized homes, and groups of players — called “Companies” — can build mighty fortresses.

New World Release Date Set for April 2020, Pre-Orders Now Open

A press release from after The Game Awards states that the New World release date will be sometime in April 2020, but it’s actually possible to get access to it before that. Those of you who pre-order the game will be able to get into the closed beta starting on May 26, 2020 at 3:00 AM Eastern.

This upcoming title from Amazon will be accessible via Steam, so no worries about having to download yet another client. You can pre-order Amazon’s New World on Steam or on Amazon at the price of $39.99 or your regional equivalent. Alternatively, you can get the Deluxe Edition on Steam and Amazon for just ten dollars more.
