After just announcing the game at Sony’s recent State of Play event, today Arise: A Simple Story gets a release date of December 3rd, and a few more launch platforms.
Arise tells the story of a man who has died and found himself in Limbo. He begins to go on a journey, and along the way relives parts of his life. Each chapter will represent a significant moment in his life, and you’ll be learning about his history as the game advances. The press release notes that “memories come alive and time bends to the player’s will,” though how that will be reflected in the actual game will likely have to wait until launch to find out.
The game is developed by Piccolo, a small studio (literally, Piccolo is the Italian word for “small”) based in Barcelona, Spain. The studio consists of only 15 members. Founder Alexis Corominas had the following to say about Arise:
Arise is an emotional journey through a lifetime full of bliss and sorrow, ultimately a tale everyone can relate to. It allows you to explore the many seasons of life illustrated by evocative environments, and relive memories with the help of a unique time manipulation gameplay mechanic. Our goal is to let players reminisce and reflect on their own lives as they progress through the story.
In addition to the game, you can also pre-order Arise: A Simple Story’s soundtrack. It’s being composed by David Garcia, who is best known for his work on Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice.
Arise: A Simple Story will be launching on December 3rd for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Epic Games Store.
