Arthur Morgan’s Horse Comforting in Red Dead 2 Was Originally a Bit Too Loving, If You Know What We Mean

You might know Roger Clark as Arthur Morgan, protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2. You probably won’t know him as Mary Linton, or a huge brown bear, two additional characters that the actor also apparently portrayed in his time working on Rockstar’s game.

There are major spoilers for the story of Red Dead Redemption 2 beyond!

Below, you can see the full interview with Clark, courtesy of IGN. The actor says that all in all, he probably played “about two dozen” characters in Red Dead Redemption 2, one of which was Mary Linton. In a post-credits scene where Mary mourns at the grave of Arthur Morgan, Julie Jesnick, the actor who played Mary, wasn’t available for performance capture that day. So Clark had to stand in for Jesnick, attending the funeral of his own character.

It turns out attending his own funeral wasn’t the strangest performance capture that Roger Clark pulled off. “One of the funner ones I did was a bear,” says Clark. “You know when a guy gets caught in a bear trap, and if you choose not to help him, you can watch the guy get mauled? So I did that, and I was shaking the guy like crazy.”

It also transpired that Clark’s performance may have been a little too intimate with his horse. “They were like ‘you gotta do all the horse stuff again,'” Clark says, in reference to Arthur Morgan’s lines where he comforts his horse. “And they said, ‘it doesn’t really sound like you’re talking to a horse,'” Clark recalls. After having the lines played back to him however, Clark admits he might have been a little too intimate with Arthur’s horse.
