It’s been rumored that an Astroneer PlayStation 4 version may be coming via Gearbox Software, and now it’s been confirmed. In collaboration with Gearbox, System Era Softworks behind Astroneer, announced the news today at the Gearbox PAX West 2019 panel. Alongside the confirmation, they also revealed the release date of November 15, 2019.
Astroneer Exploration Update Coming
The cute trailer for the Astroneer PlayStation 4 arrival briefly teases the upcoming Exploration Update. A developer from System Era in their Discord teased that the next update will be shortly after PAX West. It’s unknown when exactly, but they said, “like a day later”. Therefore, for those of you excited for new content on the way, you might not have to wait too long. The same developer also mentioned a vlog coming today, likely about PAX West.
Astroneer first released an early access version on both Xbox One and PC via Steam Early Access in December 2016. Since then, it released a 1.0 version on February 6, 2019, for both Xbox One and PC. This news marks the PlayStation 4 as the third platform people can get their hands on it. Check out TechRaptor’s review if you want to find out more about Astroneer.
The next question is if there are any plans for coming to the Nintendo Switch. The planned Nintendo Switch release for Risk of Rain 2 under Gearbox leaves room for Astroneer to follow suit.
Even if you don’t play Astroneer, the trailer announcing its PlayStation 4 release is absolutely adorable. I know if I could control my friend or brother’s character, I would in heartbeat. This trailer represents me trying to figure out the controls to pretty much every game ever. Who needs a tutorial when you can mash every button and hope you don’t press the wrong one?
I won’t lie, after seeing all the different dances the character did, I expected flossing. I think I’m okay without seeing more flossing after every Netflix show including it recently.
