What kind of trouble could a ferret get up to in space? Apparently a lot, as Widget Satchel shows.
Putting you in the role of a ferret named Sprocket aboard a space station, Widget Satchel has you escaping from your playpen and right away getting into all sorts of trouble. Specifically, stealing trouble. Sprocket will have to steal widgets to create doohickeys, which will allow him to advance through the game’s metroidvania environments. Maybe you want to build a small ferret-sized helicopter that can shoot rockets, or maybe you want to make some switches for doors. Either way, there’s plenty to build so you can explore the space station to your hearts content. Also you don’t need to worry about getting killed along the way. While Sprocket will lose widgets if he gets hurt, he can’t die, so you can feel free to experiment all you want.
Developers Nobel Robot, a studio based in Minneapolis, are developing Widget Satchel, and it will be their first game they’ll release. Despite that, they’re also working on a multiplayer party game called Metro Nexus, which involves playing as little metro cars and painting the floor before the other players can. You can also shoot little rockets in an attempt to knock players off of the map. That game still doesn’t have a release date, but it’s targeting PC and Nintendo Switch.
Widget Satchel will be coming to PC and Nintendo Switch some time in 2019 for the price of $15, with a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version following in 2020.
