Indie game developer Zeboyd Digital Entertainment has announced a rather appropriate game for the holidays: Cthulhu Saves Christmas.
Cthulhu Saves Christmas is exactly what it says on the tin: a game about the eldritch dark lord Cthulhu saving Christmas. Set up as a prequel to Cthulhu Saves the World, this JRPG was recently announced in a tweet on Zeboyd’s official Twitter account.
Zeboyd Digital Entertainment (also known as Zeboyd Games) is perhaps best known for making strange but well-crafted JRPGs. They burst onto the scene with Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death VII and subsequently got a nice bump in popularity by taking on the development of some of the Penny Arcade’s On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness games. Now, they have a brand-new title on the way just in time for the holidays.
What’s Cthulhu Saves Christmas All About?
In Cthulhu Saves Christmas, you play as Cthulhu and save Christmas. It’s pretty straightforward about that.
Players will team up with the Snow Maiden, Baba Yaga-chan, and Belsnickel to fight the vile Christmas League of Evil villains! These especially bad boys have kidnapped Santa, and it’s up to you to save him!
It’s not just a straight JRPG, though. There are also some life sim portions of the game. You can build your “R’lyehtionship” levels with both friends and enemies.
Stated to be “fun for the whole family”, Cthulhu Save Christmas promises to be a JRPG with a unique spin on the formula and some excellent comedy. It’s not out quite yet nor has any pricing been announced, but you can add it to your wishlist on Steam for now.
