The Irregular Corporation — the publishers behind Sailaway and PC Building Simulator — have announced Dinkum, a brand-new sandbox game that’s set in the fantastical land of Australia. This upcoming survival sandbox title was developed by a single man and it certainly seems to be an interesting game!
In Dinkum, players are plopped down in the Australian outback. They can build houses, create communities, fish, forage, mine, and more! As your home grows, you’ll be able to attract new townsfolk who will want to live next to you, turning your tiny homestead into a bustling town in its own right.
That’s not to say that things will be all sunshine and lollipops, though! There are definitely going to be plenty of hazards to endure. Sure, there will be all sorts of deadly wildlife, but you’ll also have to contend with something that many survival games ignore outright: the environment. Heading into a desert? Make sure you stay hydrated or you’ll be in deep trouble very quickly.
“I’ve been playing around with the basic idea of Dinkum for a couple of years. I’m a big fan of cozy life-sim games and I’ve always wanted a game where you can live in a town that you’ve built from the ground up.” the game’s solo developer James Bendon said in a press release. “I had the rare opportunity to follow my dream – to create and release my own video game. Not far into development, I decided to base the game’s setting on the Australian landscape. As a local, I took a road trip across Australia and was inspired by the vast red deserts and native bushlands.”
As much fun as these kinds of games can be, they’re best played with friends! Thankfully, this upcoming survival sandbox game from James Bendon and The Irregular Corporation will have support for co-op multiplayer. If Dinkum sounds like your kind of jam, you’ll have a bit of a wait — it arrives on PC sometime in 2020. In the meantime, you can watch the Dinkum Announce Trailer below or add the game to your wishlist on Steam.
