Giant bug hunting simulator, Earth Defense Force 5, will be making its way to PC via Steam later on this week. The 5th entry in the Earth Defense Force series, the game was originally released back in 2017 on PS4 exclusively but will soon be making its way to PC, allowing gamers to finally use a keyboard and mouse to stomp giant alien creatures. The series as a whole has a lot in common with Kaiju cinema, featuring giant monsters stomping their way through major metropolitan areas. As a member of the titular EDF the player must join their comrades in trying to take down the alien scourge, which for the first time in the entire series actually includes humanoid aliens.
Earth Defence Force 5 made some major changes to the series. As well as the aforementioned humanoid aliens, which may hint at a greater power behind the invasion, the game also changed the continuity around a fair bit. No longer are the EDF a government-run protection force, but instead, are a privately owned military company. As well as that in the new continuity brought forward by the game the EDF don’t see action until 2022, a far departure from the Earth Defense Force 2017 continuity which saw hostile alien contact happening much earlier in our time.
EDF 5 is the biggest entry in the series so far, as well as being the latest main entry into the series, and presents players with huge amounts of enemies, weapons, and missions to complete. You can go to Steam right now to add the game to your wishlist, but you won’t have too long to wait. Earth Defense Force 5 released for PC via Steam tomorrow Thursday 11th of July.
