Despite a major setback a year ago, the developers for the old-school FPS shooter Exodemon pulled through and officially released the game this month. Now, a once previously lost build of the original Exodemon was recovered and is even in a playable state.
This story was originally brought to our attention by a tweet from Megan Fox, founder of Glass Bottom Games and developer of the upcoming SkateBIRD. In her tweet, she says that Exodemon developer Kupuu lost their project files over a year ago. Kupuu managed to ship the game on a hacked version of an old build.
Exodemon is a neat game with some issues, and looked promising, but, apparently they’re gonna struggle to fix any of them because they lost the project files a year prelaunch and only shipped thanks to god-tier hacking of an old build? https://t.co/RIr7u4Io1Q pic.twitter.com/3d9LjYg0Cs

Thankfully, the story has a happy ending. Kupuu now has access to part of the original Exodemon project, albeit it’s a little rough around the edges. The developers should have a much easier time supporting the game, once it’s all up and running. In a recent blog post by Kupuu, they say:
First, we need to make everything work properly. Then, we’ll start to fix issues and add some new stuff – including redesigning the end of the game, amending performance issues and fixing glitches.
Having the project again allows us to make new builds, so Exodemon will be available for Linux and Mac as well, something we intended since day one of development.
For a look at how this salvaged build runs, you can take a look at this video below.
Exodemon is a title inspired by 90s shooters. You take the role of a scientist with an alien infection, allowing her to take on droves of enemies with hands that shoot a destructive hail of gunfire.
Exodemon released on August 3rd, 2019, so it’s available to play now. Its regular price is $6.99, but it is on sale for 10 percent off until August 9th if you want to try it out.
It’s extremely impressive to hear how Kupuu managed to keep the game going and ready for release, despite a major setback. It’s even better to hear that they’ve salvaged part of the original build. I can’t even imagine how they managed to do it, but kudos to them!
