One Mexican retailer purportedly leaked the release date of Luigi’s Mansion 3 just a few days ago. While the initial date was allegedly October 4th, 2019, it wasn’t too far from the truth. Now, Nintendo announced that Luigi’s Mansion 3 drops this Halloween.
When Luigi’s friends go missing on vacation, it’s up to our reluctant hero to save them from the ghosts in the Last Resort hotel! Join forces with Gooigi, slam ghosts, & prepare for a spooky treat when #LuigisMansion3 arrives to #NintendoSwitch on 10/31!https://t.co/3fg4O2t6PB pic.twitter.com/iNM9BKNKg5

In the short teaser above, we see Luigi creeping through the spooky hotel where Luigi’s Mansion 3 takes place. Ominous X’s cross over Mario, Peach, Toad, and even Luigi’s portraits. Whatever it means, it spells trouble for our green protagonist.
I played Luigi’s Mansion 3 at E3 this year, and I was left impressed. It still feels like both previous games in the series, but adds a few extra mechanics into the mix, as well as a nice coat of polish. The graphics are wonderful and take full advantage of the Nintendo Switch’s hardware. Gameplay-wise, Luigi has the ability to slam ghosts around, which you can use to cause damage to several ghosts at once.
Gooigi makes his return, as well. Players use Gooigi as a co-op partner in Luigi’s Mansion 3 just as you could in the 3DS port of the original title (which you can check out our review for). However, Gooigi is also usable in singleplayer, allowing you to control him and walk through hazardous obstacles such as spikes.

As a huge fan of all things Luigi and the Luigi’s Mansion series as a whole, I’m pumped. I was initially skeptical that the game would release this year, despite Nintendo’s reassurances. I’m happy to see that it drops on a day appropriate for ghost hunting. One thing I am concerned for is that the later months of this year are packed with game releases, so it will be interesting to see how the game performs in sales with so many hot games launching around that time.
