CD Projekt Red announced today that a closed beta for the long-awaited iOS version of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game will launch on October 15th.
Prospective iOS players can sign up for the closed beta right now on the game’s official website. The beta will begin on Tuesday of next week and the limited spots are available on a first come, first served basis. Sign-up requires a GOG.com account. Progress, cards, currency, etc. are carried over between the iOS and PC versions, but not the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 versions. The purpose of the beta is to gather player feedback just before the iOS version’s official launch on October 29th, though it’s hard to say how much of that feedback CDPR can implement in just a two week timespan. Players who don’t get into the beta are still able to pre-order the game on the App Store and play it once it becomes available to everyone later this month.
Gwent, the standalone card game based on the addictive mini-game from The Witcher 3, has had a long and windy road to mobile platforms. The game first appeared on PC and consoles in beta form all the way back in 2016, with the full game not releasing until late 2018 on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It wasn’t until March this year that CD Projekt Red could finally confirm that a mobile version was just around the corner. Although the end—or beginning, depending on how you look at it—is finally in sight for iOS players, there is still no word on when Gwent’s Android version will launch or enter a public-facing beta phase.
Sign-ups for the closed beta are available on CD Projekt Red’s website here. The Gwent iOS beta and the full game will release on October 15th and October 29th respectively.
