Xûr is Destiny 2’s Exotic gear merchant. He appears every weekend to sell the game’s most coveted items in exchange for Legendary shards, but if you’re a casual player with limited shards to spend, it can be hard to know which of his wares is most worth your investment. That’s where we come in.
Xûr appears every Friday at 17:00 GMT (10:00 Pacific), and will stick around until the Tuesday reset. We’ll update this guide shortly after he arrives, so if you’re reading this, you need only read on to learn where he is, and which are the best items he’s selling this week.
Ever since the Forsaken expansion, Xûr’s icon no longer appears on your director, so he’s not quite as easy to track down as he used to be. That said, his appearances in the EDZ, Titan, Nessus, Io, and The Tower have so far been in the same places he frequented in vanilla Destiny 2. So if you’ve been following Destiny 2 from the start, you should have no problem finding the merchant’s spots.
Xûr is back at the EDZ this week, near Winding Cove. He is selling:
- Riskrunner, an Exotic energy submachine gun, for 29 legendary shards
- Transversive Steps, Exotic Warlock leg armour, for 23 legendary shards
- Fr0st-EE5, Exotic Hunter leg armour, for 23 legendary shards
- Eternal Warrior, an Exotic Titan helmet, for 23 legendary shards
Riskrunner is an Arc submachinegun that deals more damage, has a chance to chain its damage across enemies, and to return ammo to its magazine, whenever you take an Arc attack. In such circumstances, this is exactly as good as it sounds – it can quite literally shoot indefinitely, and its chain lightning spreads the pain, making it an amazing tool for mopping up adds. Titans can double the fun by wearing Peacekeeper boots and equipping another SMG in the kinetic slot. However, if you’re in the Crucible or you’re not facing a lot of Arc attacks, it’s nothing more than a mediocre SMG. It’s nice to own as a fun option to bring along against the Fallen, but we wouldn’t say it’s a top pick for any demanding activity.

Transversive Steps are a handsome pair of Warlock boots that will increase your sprint speed and automatically reload energy weapons while sprinting. The speed increase is roughly 5%, and since mobility doesn’t affect sprint, this is the only way to get faster at top speed. Still, it’s hardly essential; you could pair it with the two MIDA weapons for a blazing Gauntlet run, but otherwise we can’t think of any situation where it’s a must-pick, especially since Warlocks have plenty of other excellent Exotic armour. Mediocre.
Fr0st-EE5 wants you to run. Rapid Cooldown increases regeneration for grenade, melee, and dodge abilities while you’re sprinting, and gives you a little bit more mobility while you’re moving at top speed. All those things are useful, but there’s no denying that it’s not the most combination of Exotic buffs. Not essential in any meaningful way, though they can come in handy for giving you a bit more control in the midst of jumping puzzles. That’s a pretty limited recommendation, though.
Eternal Warrior is pretty straightforward – the Resolute perk gives you an overshield when you activate Fists of Havoc. It’s a decent enough bonus, but ideally you wouldn’t be taking that much damage when you’re using a Super anyway, and Titans have some other extremely powerful Exotic options.
