Give yourself a pat on the back, PC Monster Hunter fans; your wait for Monster Hunter World: Iceborne’s release on Steam is nearly halfway finished. Monster Hunter World: Iceborne will debut on Steam on January 9, 2020.
Today, Capcom announced the PC launch date and released a new 4K, 60 FPS trailer for the expansion. On Steam, Monster Hunter World’s base game is currently 50% off, and you can pre-purchase Iceborne for $39.99 USD.
In late July, Capcom promised PC players that it was targeting a January release for Iceborne. The gap between Iceborne’s September 6 launch for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and its PC debut is about half as long as it took for Monster Hunter World to make its way to the PC in 2018.
Still, that leaves the status of some post-release additions to Iceborne up in the air for PC players. While you’ll immediately be able to sink your Clutch Claw into Iceborne’s new monsters come January 9, you may still have to wait a bit longer for the Rajang, Guiding Lands, and the upcoming Resident Evil 2 crossover if Iceborne keeps up the staggered DLC releases the PC base game was subject to.
In her review of the console version, Kat says Iceborne “does exactly what any good expansion should do—refresh the base game and remind you why you loved it in the first place.” As hard as it can be to wait for a good port, Iceborne’s well worth it.
