Square Enix released a few more screenshots and info about Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its new look for Midgar today. But alongside the battle screens and cutscenes, there was also some updated art that feels warmly nostalgic.
This image of Tifa was used as promo art for Final Fantasy 7 way back, and Square Enix recreated it inside Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Much like seeing the original FF7 box art in a new light, this is a stark reminder of how much the Remake has overhauled the game’s look, yet still remains truthful to the source.
We also get a look at Shiva, who’s had a similar glow-up from the original Final Fantasy 7 to its Remake. Shiva is bound to Summon Materia, and you can either issue commands or let her do her thing on the battlefield. Of course, when the time limit for her Summon is up, Shiva uses her signature Diamond Dust.
We got a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Remake just last week at The Game Awards, dropping some new info on that Cloud Strife guy. Still doesn’t explain how he swings that sword with those tiny arms, though.
While Final Fantasy 7 Remake is coming to PlayStation 4 on March 3, 2020, the wait for non-PlayStation players will be even longer; a recent box art update indicates it will be a console exclusive for a year. Best of luck to the patient Xbox Final Fantasy fans.
