A series of Nexon layoffs have apparently resulted from the closure of two subsidiaries in California. Affected games include Mabinogi, Rocket Arena, and an unannounced third title that was in development and is probably canceled as a result of the studios being closed.
As Gamasutra reports, the Nexon layoffs were commented on by former Production Manager Chris Jung on LinkedIn:
Nexon America has undergone a restructuring, which has resulted in the closure of the Division Partners Office in Los Angeles. There are currently a number of people, including myself, who as a result have lost their job, or had their roles changed. If you can do anything to help them you can find their Linkedin profiles at the bottom of this article. If you don’t have the ability to help us find new jobs, can you please share this post to boost the needs of these talented people.
Mr. Jung goes on to state that the teams behind Mabinogi, Rocket Arena, and an unannounced third game have lost their jobs as a result of the Nexon layoffs. His post also includes the names and LinkedIn profiles of several former employees on these three teams in the hopes that other developers will pick them up.
The Nexon M and Nexon Division Partners offices are the two locations that are being closed down. In a statement to Gamasutra, the company says that they are consolidating their PC, mobile, and console publishing businesses into a single unit in order to better support their games. Additionally, the company aims to “position ourselves for the recent trend of platform convergence”, referring to the increasing number of games that allow some form of Cross-Play.
