Have you ever wanted a chance to read about the heroes of Overwatch? In something other than comic form? Well, Blizzard is offering that opportunity with the new Overwatch book series from Scholastic.
Seemingly a retelling of Orisa’s origin story, The Hero of Numbani will feature the robotic centaur and her creator Efi Oladele. Taking place in the city of Numbani right after Doomfist attacks, Efi watches the security robots simply be destroyed by him. Wanting to build a new protector that can stand a much better chance against the villain, she creates Orisa, intending for her to be the new hero of Numbani. Of course, Orisa doesn’t start out as a hero, and will need to learn how to become one along the way. While the story will be focusing on Efi, Orisa, and Doomfist, the description does note that Lúcio will also be playing a role in it, which is something new for Orisa’s origins. There’s no current word on how long it will be, though we do know that it will be considered a Young Adult novel.
The author of The Hero of Numbani is Nicky Drayden, who has put out several novels before this. In 2017 she wrote South African sci-fi book The Prey of Gods, then followed it up in 2018 with South African fantasy book Temper. Her next book is the upcoming hard sci-fi biohorror love story called Escaping Exodus, and it’s due out on October 15th. She’s also the author of the short story series Delightfully Twisted Tales.
The Hero of Numbani will launch on May 5th, 2020, for a price of $5.99.
