Paradox Interactive has announced a new title in its Surviving series. Surviving the Aftermath will launch in late 2020 for PC and consoles.
We don’t have a whole lot of information on the new strategy sim yet. In a press release, Paradox describes the game as a “post-apocalyptic survival colony builder”. It’s likely Surviving the Aftermath will combine the colony-building and resource management gameplay of Surviving Mars with a new post-apocalyptic setting. You can check out the teaser trailer for Surviving the Aftermath below (it’s basically just a title screen at this point, but still):
If you want to “get in on the ground level”, as Paradox puts it, then you’ll be able to play Surviving the Aftermath later this year. The game will launch via Early Access on the Epic Games Store and Xbox Game Preview. If you want to check the game out early on Steam or PlayStation 4, you’re out of luck, unfortunately. Paradox’s new game will launch on Steam, but will be an Epic Store exclusive for one year.
Nikhat Ali, lead producer on Surviving Mars and Surviving the Aftermath, says the “staggering growth” of Surviving Mars convinced him to do something new with the game’s mechanics. He says he wanted to “find new ways to utilize survival management gameplay”, and that Surviving the Aftermath represents a chance to experiment with those mechanics in “new and interesting ways”.
Paradox is planning to reveal more information about Surviving the Aftermath at this year’s PDXCON event in Berlin. A presentation will take place on Saturday, October 19th concerning the game. Presumably, we’ll see the first gameplay footage at that event. If you just can’t wait, you’ll be able to grab Surviving Mars and its Space Race DLC for free on the Epic Games Store starting October 10th. There’s also an ongoing Surviving Mars modding competition in which you can create new animals for the upcoming Project Laika expansion. You can check that out here.
Surviving the Aftermath will launch for Epic Games Store, and Xbox One in early access later this year, with a full release on there as well as Steam, and PlayStation 4 next year.
