The delightfully strange “debt repayment daily life RPG” The Good Life has unfortunately been delayed until Spring 2020. While SWERY of White Owl Inc. had hoped to get the game out before the end of the year, it seems that they’ve made the tough decision to push the release date back a few months.
In The Good Life, players take on the role of a journalist named Naomi who has acquired a substantial amount of debt. She moves to the British town of Rainy Woods and gets to meet a bunch of strange inhabitants while she tries to take pictures and figure out interesting stories to pay off the money she owes.
The 50th backer update goes into some more detail about the delay. It’s been a year and three months since the Kickstarter campaign for The Good Life hit ¥81,030,744 (≈$743,600) of its ¥68,000,000 (≈$624,000) goal. SWERY and the team at White Owl Inc. have been hard at work developing the game and fleshing it out for release, but it seems like they’re going to need more time to do things right.
In the campaign, we stated that The Good Life would be released in Q4 2019 and received support from you all. After a long deliberation, we have decided to change the schedule and extend the development period in order to deliver The Good Life to all our backers in the best condition possible.
It’s a very important, heavy decision, but we made it believing that it’s the happiest decision for all the people who are going to eventually play it. Therefore, we humbly ask that you wait a little bit longer for The Good Life to reach your hands.
We expect the release date to move from Q4 2019 to Spring 2020.
We’re very sorry about this, because we know you’ve all been waiting very patiently for The Good Life. We only came to the decision due to prioritizing the quality of the game above all else.
We sincerely hope you can understand our feelings on this issue, and will continue to support us.
No real specifics are given as to the reason behind the delay, but the developers have clearly been polishing up the game nicely. The level of detail has substantially increased since the version that was originally shown to backers and the size of the world has increased overall.
You can still pre-order The Good Life through Backerkit if you’d like to ensure that you have a copy of the game as soon as possible. Otherwise, you’ll be able to get it when it will hopefully launch sometime in the Spring of 2020.
