Rainbow Six Siege Changes Core Dev Team, as Former Leads Move to New Projects

The core development team behind Ubisoft’s door-busting tactical shooter is getting a significant shake-up. After four years at the helm, several members of Rainbow Six Siege’s core development team are pursuing new interests within Ubisoft and handing the reins of Siege to the next generation.

Announced in a post yesterday, a few members of the core team of Rainbow Six Siege are tackling something new. This includes creative director Xavier Marquis and brand director Alexandre Remy. The new team taking the helm has been integrated with the help of the former core team, and includes game director Leroy Athanassoff.

“There was a time during which the game was depending heavily on us, during its genesis, at the beginning,” Marquis said in a video interview posted by Ubisoft. “But now the game has an extra piece. It is kind of a sphere, there is the game and its community. The writing goes way beyond than what developers are including. And today, we need to prepare new developers, new people, new teams to be able to embrace that. It is crucial for the very existence of the game.”

Launched on Dec. 1, 2015, Rainbow Six Siege has become a bit of a success story for Ubisoft. Though its multiplayer-centric approach might have frustrated Rainbow Six veterans, its attack-and-defend competitive gameplay has kept chugging along throughout the years. There’s been a massive amount of content added onto Siege over time, from skins and maps to new operators, and the team at Ubisoft shows little sign of slowing down.

But for the core team, there are other things afoot in Ubisoft. The company has a stated interest in new properties and games as the next generation of consoles approaches. Now would be the right time for the leads behind one of the last decade’s big long-term success stories to start working on the next one.
