It’s looking like The Last of Us Part 2 is getting pushed back a little bit further. A report from Kotaku today indicates the anticipated sequel will be delayed into spring 2020.
This follows rumblings of news about a Sony first party title “soon,” as noted by industry analyst Daniel Ahmad. The Last of Us Part 2’s release date was only announced one month ago to be February 21, 2020, and now it seems like Naughty Dog’s next game will be waiting a bit longer.
Sony has yet to confirm this, though Kotaku’s Jason Schreier says they expect an announcement this week. We’ve reached out to Sony PR to clarify.
This delay pushes The Last of Us Part 2 further back into 2020, and right into the furious melee of major releases all set to premiere in the spring of next year. Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Cyberpunk 2020, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and the recently delayed Doom Eternal are all targeting springtime launches, so it’s a little surprising to see Naughty Dog jumping into the middle of all that.
It’s looking like spring 2020 will be one last bit of fireworks before the console launches set for holiday 2020. The PlayStation 5 in particular is due out by Christmastime next year, and this just builds more anticipation for the current console generation’s final salvo of big-budget titles.
