Satirical Metroidvania SuperEpic Coming In December

Conga Master and Superola and the Lost Burgers developer Undercoders has announced a new game. SuperEpic is a satirical Metroidvania platformer coming to PC and consoles in December.

In SuperEpic, your task is to bring down the evil Regnantcorp, a video game developer controlling society by getting citizens addicted to free games. You play as a raccoon and a llama (because of course you do) who have grown sick of the microtransaction-heavy way in which Regnantcorp develops its games. It’s your job to raid the corporation’s maze-like offices and bring them down. Here’s a trailer for SuperEpic:

Undercoders describes SuperEpic as a “non-linear, fast-paced action-adventure game” which emphasizes exploration and combo-based combat. Regnantcorp’s office is full of secrets, enemies, and challenges to discover. Naturally, this being a satirical game, you’ll level up and gain abilities through the use of in-universe microtransactions. Don’t worry though – there aren’t any actual microtransactions in SuperEpic.

When the game launches, it’ll come with a handcrafted single-player campaign and an extra roguelike mode that shuffles the levels around each time you play. There are also a bunch of hidden QR codes to discover, allowing you to unlock extra minigames and secrets in the main game. This is all wrapped up in a retro-style 16-bit aesthetic deliberately designed to ape old-school Neo Geo games. Undercoders estimates a single story run should take you around eight hours, but there’s plenty of replayability in the roguelike mode.

SuperEpic launches for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in December. It’s being developed by Spanish studio Undercoders. Publishing duties are being done by UK-based studio Numskull Games. We don’t have a concrete release date for SuperEpic yet, so watch this space. Looks like it’s going to be fun.
