Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash!, a reboot of the original Dreamcast game, is going to be delayed until sometime in 2020.

If you haven’t heard of Space Channel 5, then you’ve probably never owned a Dreamcast. You play as a news reported named Ulala in the 25th century who battles strange aliens with synchronized dancing. No, really — take a look at the PS4 trailer for this upcoming game to see the adorable weirdness in action.

Considering the success of games like Beat Saber, it’s not a surprise that Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! is being made today. Just Dance made millions with players striking poses through the use of motion controls, so why not dig up this unique IP and modernize it for the virtual reality era?

It certainly sounded like a fine idea, but it seems like it’s not going to be making its original release date.

Space Channel 5 VR Won’t Be Out Until Next Year

Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! was supposed to launch before the end of 2019. As VR Focus reports, though, the developers have released a statement where they announce that they’re pushing back the release date.

Dear all,

Thank you for your support for “Space Channel 5”. We regret to announce the “Space Channel 5 VR Kinda Funky News Flash!” will be delayed. Originally scheduled to be released end of 2019, it has since been pushed back to Spring 2020. The new release date will be announced as soon as possible. From Team Grounding.

It’s a bit disappointing that we’ll have to wait to get our hands on this game, but it’s better that they delay things and get it right. You’ll be able to play Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! on the PSVR for PS4 or on HTC Vive, Steam VR, or Oculus Rift on PC sometime in 2020.

What do you think of Space Channel 5 VR: Kinda Funky News Flash! being delayed until 2020? Do you think this game will get the popularity it never managed in the Dreamcast era? Let us know in the comments below!
