Square Enix Likens Dragon Quest XI S to a Remake, Not a Simple Port

Square Enix have stated that Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition is more than just a port to the Nintendo Switch, but remake.

The comments come from the latest issue of Nintendo Dream magazine (via Twitter user @nindori). During the interview, it was stated that even though the game was for those who owned a Nintendo Switch, they did not just wish to port the game with content from the 3DS and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

Using fan feedback from earlier editions of the game, they decided to develop a “remake” of the game, rather than a straight port with no improvements.

Despite this, Square Enix emphasizes that this not a case of adding things they could not on 3DS or PlayStation 4.

The term remake has been with varying accuracy over the years, being truly correct for recent and upcoming titles such as Crash Bandicoot: NSane Trilogy, Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled, and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition is launching September 27th for Nintendo Switch.

Dragon Quest XI is now available for Windows PC and PlayStation 4. In case you missed it, you can find our extremely thorough review for the game here (we absolutely loved it!)
