Frostpunk, the survival management hit from 11-bit studios, received its first major expansion today.

The expansion, titled The Rifts, was both announced and debuted today, August 27. The DLC is the first piece of content for the game’s season pass, also announced and available for purchase today.

The Rifts brings a new map to Frostpunk’s Endless Mode. The new map will, according to an 11-bit press release, require players to “use new gameplay mechanics to bridge the rifts to access new areas and expand your city in unprecedented ways.” 11 bit also announced two more expansions as part of the season pass. The first, The Last Autumn, is due out Q4 2019. The Laat Autumn will feature a new scenario with new game mechanics and architecture. The second, mysteriously titled Project TVADGYCGJR, is due for 2020.

A free update for all players has arrived alongside The Rifts. The update brings three new Endless Mode maps, titled Frozen Grove, Snowdrifts, and Hanging Rock. They’re based on scenario maps The Arks, Refugees, and Fall of Winterhome.

Players can purchase The Rifts for $4.99 USD on its own, but can also receive it by buying the game’s season pass for $24.49. Both are currently available on Steam. The season pass also includes Frostpunk’s soundtrack and a digital artbook. Both bonuses are also available for individual purchase on Steam.

Frostpunk will be arriving on consoles October 11 digitally, with a PS4 retail release set for October 18. 11 bit had originally planned the port for this summer but pushed it back earlier this month. You can find out some more about our early impressions of the console port from an event earlier this year.

The survival management title first released in April 2018 received critical acclaim, with TechRaptor’s own Don Parsons calling it “A smart experience that asks you what trade-offs you’ll make in the face of adversity and has some neat twists on the classic city-building mechanics makes Frostpunk stand out from the pack.” You can read the entire review here.
