The Last of Us 2 has PS4 players plenty prepared for fun, but they may have a tough decision ahead of them. A rumor has cropped up stating that there are going to be four distinct The Last of Us 2 editions at launch, and odds are some of them are going to cost a pretty penny.
A comment on ResetEra from Niko Partners Senior Analyst Daniel “ZhugeEX” Ahmad shows a image in Chinese that states that there will be four editions of The Last of Us 2. These will be the Standard Edition, the Special Edition, the Collector’s Edition, and the Ellie Edition. Furthermore, the same comment states a release window of February 2020 for this upcoming sequel to The Last of Us.
One user asked Mr. Ahmad how reliable this particular source is; he replied that the same person accurately called the Death Stranding release date “a couple of weeks” before the trailer was revealed to the world.
Unfortunately, the only thing we know about The Last of Us 2 editions right now are their names and the planned release window. Similar setups with multiple editions typically have three versions with digital goodies and a fourth expensive edition with physical items for players to enjoy. I think it’s safe to assume that The Last of Us 2 will follow a similar plan, although we probably won’t get to hear the details until the official announcement (or another leak).
The Last of Us 2 made a splash at E3 2018 with a bombastic trailer that brilliantly mixed drama with action. Since then, fans have been waiting for a concrete release date, but they’ve been met with relative radio silence while the developers have been at work.
As always, bear in mind that this is a rumor. While Mr. Ahmad himself has generally been reliable (and he’s vouching for his source), rumors can be inaccurate. It’s entirely possible for plans that haven’t yet been officially announced to change in the time between a leak and their reveal to the world.
The Last of Us 2 doesn’t yet have an official release date, but you can expect to get your hands on it sometime in February 2020 if this rumor proves true.
