Turok: Escape from Lost Valley and Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion Announced

Turok: Escape from Lost Valley and Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion have been announced seemingly out of nowhere. These two new games published by Universal Studios Interactive Entertainment are very different from what you would expect to see from either of these franchises — and they’re both coming to Steam on July 25, 2019.

From what we can gather, both of these games were born from the Universal Game Dev challenge presented by Unity. This contest had a bunch of game developers creating game prototypes based on existing IPs like Turok and Voltron. Now that the contest is over, a couple of the prototypes have made their way onto Steam — and they’re certainly unique titles that you wouldn’t quite expect!

Turok: Escape from Lost Valley

Turok: Escape from Lost Valley is somewhat of a more adorable take on the dinosaur-hunting franchise than we’re used to. Take command of Turok as he travels the land helping out fellow natives and fighting off deadly dinosaurs!

Throughout the course of the game, you’ll meet iconic characters from the original Turok comic series. Master the art of the bow and the knife before you die the most adorable of deaths!

This one is certainly much different from the Turok: Dinosaur Hunter that many of us have fond memories of. Still, it seems like an interesting new take on an older IP that could use a little love!

Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion

Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion will launch in Steam Early Access. In this game, two opposing sides build towers with blocks. Blocks can attack, defend, or use special abilities, and the configuration of your tower will determine its offensive and defensive capability. Because hey, when you think Voltron, the first thing that pops in your head is blocks!

…right?

Anyways, this seems like a pretty neat strategy game set in the Voltron universe that mixes in some cool puzzle elements. The Early Access version of Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion will include both a single-player gameplay mode along with local and online multiplayer.

Interestingly, these two games only represent a third of the finalists in the Universal Game Dev Challenge. Here are the other four titles:

  • Backpack to the Future
  • Back to the Future IV: Time Anomalies
  • Battlestar Galactica Deception
  • Turok: Legacy of Stone

The Voltron game was the ultimate winner of the Universal game dev contest that saw hundreds of other entrants, but Turok: Escape from Lost Valley is also getting published anyway. Perhaps we’ll see one or more of the other four games make their way onto Steam or a similar service.

These two Universal Studios Interactive Entertainment titles are certainly a bit unconventional, but they look pretty cool nonetheless! They’ll be launching on Steam for PC on July 25, 2019. In the meantime, you can add Turok: Escape from Lost Valley and Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion to your Steam wishlist.

What do you think of the new Turok game Turok: Escape from Lost Valley? Do you like the idea of the Voltron strategy game Voltron: Cubes of Olkarion? Let us know in the comments below!

I’ve had a controller in my hand since I was 4 and I haven’t stopped gaming since. CCGs, Tabletop Games, Pen & Paper RPGs – I’ve tried a whole bunch of stuff over the years and I’m always looking to try more!
