It’s been 15 years since the launch of the MMO that changed gaming—and many lives—forever. World of Warcraft dazzled players with its unparalleled world and incredible gameplay. Blizzard’s flagship franchise is still living on to this very day, and just recently the company launched World of Warcraft Classic for players to relive the original experience all over again. In celebration of this game’s extensive history, Blizzard released a collector’s edition chock full of amazing World of Warcraft goodies.
If you were one of the lucky few who secured the coveted World of Warcraft 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition, rejoice! Your package should arrive soon;you may even have the glorious goods of this edition proudly displayed already. For those who missed out, fret not, you can live vicariously through this unboxing.
Pictures cannot accurately portray the mass of this box. Not only is it large in size, but it’s heavy, too. The presentation on the outside is astounding. The alabaster details adorning this box give it a weathered look. You don’t want to throw the box in the trash once you’re done. On one side is an orc, the other a night elf. I prefer the Horde, so I’ll be proudly displaying the orc to represent my favored faction.
Opening the box reveals another, smaller one. This box is full of goodies including a mouse pad, pin, and art prints (see below). As for the container itself, it’s another homerun. The surface is shiny because of the plastic covering the front, but the surface of the box still has grooves and is accented with a glistering gold. If you are used to typical World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition boxes, this seems to be around the same size.
These are the contents within the first box. Pay no mind to the bottom card; it’s just advertising other Blizzard games. On the left is a nicely designed mouse pad that I’m conflicted about. I love the look and it’s a great size, but I don’t want to ruin the patina with use. Still, I think it would look great on my desk or even as another display piece. In the middle is an Onyxia pin, which is a cute little addition to the overall package. On the right is an envelope containing fine art prints of the various expansions over World of Warcraft‘s 15 years. You can take a look at them below. And before you rush to the Blizzard store to redeem those codes in this picture, sorry—they’re already taken. Thankfully, you can buy those two alabaster mounts on the in-game shop.
These prints are beautifully designed and represent each expansion. The top right corner has a glossy gold World of Warcraft 15th Anniversary logo to accent each piece. It’s hard for me to pick a favorite, but I have to say that Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm stand out among the pack.
The centerpiece of this collection is no doubt what is contained within this third large box. The Ragnaros statue is what compelled me to purchase this collector’s edition, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.
This statue is absolutely massive, and it has a lot of weight to it. It could be considered a dangerous weapon, if I had to guess. It doesn’t seem to be cheaply made; the plastic is sturdy and the paint job is impeccable. Besides the musky smell of paint on the statue within its styrofoam prison, there’s no complaints from me. The pictures don’t do it justice until you feel it for yourself. Sulfuras, Ragnaros’ Hammer, is a separate piece that attaches to the hilt. The two flame fumes on the back of Ragnaros need to be attached, as well as his ominous hand.
Value-wise, the entire set is a bargain for $100. I didn’t feel like it needed anything else, and the statue alone is worth that asking price. The World of Warcraft 15th Anniversary Collector’s Edition may be sold out, but you can still celebrate this MMO’s long history by playing World of Warcraft Classic.
