Valve has released the top 20 Steam releases in the month of September, giving us a better idea on what kind of games people are buying and some interesting stats to go with them.
Before we get into the list, Valve had a few interesting notes on the current batch of games. For starters, eight of the games on the list, such as Green Hell, Session, and Noita were either originally in Valve’s Early Access program and had finally released in September, or had launched into Early Access. They also noted that nine of the games were from developers that had never published on Steam before. Finally, Valve said that the option to use a controller continued to see wide use on Steam, with three of the games in the top 10 for controller use, and over half of them saw over 50% of players choose to use a controller instead of mouse and keyboard.
Valve didn’t provide the exact order of the top 20 sales, instead choosing to list the games by release date. So we don’t know which is number 1 and which is 20. One important thing to note is this is the top 20 measured by revenue generated in the first two weeks following release, not for sales in all of September or other methodologies. However, here are the top 20 games:
In addition to this, Valve also provided the top 5 most played (by peak concurrent players) new free to play games on Steam for September:
