Hungarian developer The Wild Gentlemen has announced its debut title. Chicken Police is a “weird but beautiful noir adventure” coming to PC, consoles, and Apple TV in Q1 2020.

On the official Steam page, The Wild Gentlemen describes Chicken Police as an “Orwellesque buddy-cop noir adventure”. On the night of New Year’s Eve, a mysterious woman visits Sonny Featherland (yes, he’s a chicken) with an errand that sends him into the dark corners of his past. Sonny and his partner Marty must team up to discover the truth behind her request and what caused Sonny’s downfall from the titular chicken police. Remember, we’re still talking about chickens here. Check out the game’s trailer below:

Chicken Police promises to combine elements of visual novels, detective games, and point-and-click adventures. You’ll visit more than 25 places in Clawville City, some of which will change significantly over the course of the game. In those locations, you’ll need to interrogate over 30 unique characters, each of which has their own agenda. The Wild Gentlemen says the interrogation system it’s crafted for Chicken Police is “complex”, so you’ll have plenty to get stuck into if you’re a detective game fan.

If you’ve been waiting for a game that mixes noir with slightly weird animal designs (and that isn’t Blacksad: Under the Skin), looks like Chicken Police is for you. The Wild Gentlemen’s inspirations for the game include SnatcherGrim Fandango, and L.A. Noire. The game is intended to scratch those itches for players who haven’t been able to get their fix elsewhere. Naturally, we’ll be watching this one with very beady chicken-like eyes.

Chicken Police flaps its way to PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Apple TV in Q1 2020. The developer says more platforms will be “added later”; it’s not clear if Apple TV refers to Apple Arcade or just the TV platform, so we’ll have to wait and see where else Chicken Police pops up its head.
