When Yakuza: Like a Dragon releases next year, it’ll be taking us back to a beloved location. Sotenbori will be back in action for the first time since Yakuza Kiwami 2.
Aside from Kiwami 2, Sotenbori also featured in Yakuza 0. It’s based on the real-world location of Dotonbori in Osaka, generally seen as one of the hottest tourist destinations in the city. You can catch a brief glimpse of Sotenbori in the gameplay stream for Yakuza: Like a Dragon below, right around the 2:17 mark.
This means Yakuza: Like a Dragon will feature three locations in total: Kamurocho, Yokohama, and Sotenbori. The former is a red light district in Tokyo, and one of the main locations across the Yakuza series. Yokohama is a city just south of Tokyo, and features as a stronghold of the Chinese Snake Flower Triad in several Yakuza games.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon releases in January 2020 in Japan, and will be arriving later in 2020 in the west, exclusively for the PS4. Kazuma Kiryu, Goro Majima, and other characters are returning in supporting roles, as is Nugget the Chicken, famed real estate manager.
